We are a retail business in the Oakland Hills operating two beautiful boutique nurseries — Broadway Terrace Nursery (Rockridge/Piedmont) and Yarrow Nursery (Montclair). We carry a great selection of landscape plants, bedding plants, houseplants, trees, and shrubs.
Position Overview
We are looking for a part-time team member to support our retail operations during afternoons and weekends. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a lively retail environment, is reliable, and takes pride in keeping the store organized and welcoming for customers.

FULL-TIME SALES ASSOCIATE

We are looking for a full-time Sales Associate who thrives in a fast-paced, outdoor retail environment. You are a self-starter and problem solver with a passion for plants and people. This role blends retail sales, plant expertise, and nursery work — making every day varied and engaging.
Schedule
Full-time | 40 hours/week
Must have availability to work weekends

About This Role
This is not a typical retail job. The Garden Guru is our resident plant expert — someone who shows up on weekend mornings to connect with customers, answer their gardening questions, and help them solve the real problems happening in their gardens right now.You know Oakland's microclimates, its soils, its pests, and its quirks. You've seen decades of gardens grow (and struggle) and you love sharing what you've learned. Customers will seek you out. You'll be the reason they come back.This is a people-first role. No heavy lifting, no physical nursery work — just conversation, expertise, and genuine enjoyment of helping gardeners succeed.

Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

What You'll Do
Engage with customers and answer gardening questions on the nursery floorHelp diagnose plant problems — pests, disease, soil issues, cultural problemsAdvise customers on plant selection, placement, and care for Oakland Hills and surrounding microclimatesShare knowledge of seasonal planting, water-wise gardening, and Bay Area growing conditionsHelp customers feel confident about their purchases and their gardens
What We're Looking For
Deep, practical knowledge of gardening in the Oakland area and East Bay microclimatesA genuine love of teaching and talking to people — you light up when someone asks a good questionDecades of hands-on gardening experienceFamiliarity with common Bay Area plants, pests, soils, and seasonal rhythmsUC Master Gardener certification is a big plus, but not requiredWarm, patient, and approachable — as comfortable with a nervous beginner as with an experienced gardenerReliable weekend morning availability

Compensation
Pay: $20.00/hour
