SALES ASSOCIATE
We are a retail business in the Oakland Hills operating two beautiful “boutique” nurseries, Broadway Terrace Nursery (Rockridge/Piedmont) and Yarrow Nursery (Montclair). We have a great selection of landscape plants, bedding plants, houseplants, trees and shrubs.
We are looking for a candidate who likes working outside, multitasking between customer service and nursery work. You are a self-starter and problem solver and like a fast paced environment. You enjoy physical work and can safely lift up to 50 pounds. You are familiar with the world of horticulture and know basic plant care principles. You apply basic sales techniques, have excellent customer service skills and enjoy talking to people.
We take pride in our plant designs, and we encourage our crew members to learn how to design with plants. The job will include putting together orchid and succulent arrangements to order (with training).
Tasks include but are not limited to:
Retail sales and customer service
Plant care & watering
Receiving, unpacking, pricing and stocking merchandise
Merchandising plants, pottery, dry goods
Designing with plants
Cleaning indoor & outdoor
Your pay depends on your experience, but will start at $18, and we pay an extra $2 on the weekend. 1 week of paid PTO per year, accrued on a 1 per 52 hour basis. We do not offer health insurance.
TEAM LEAD
Yarrow Nursery/Broadway Terrace Nursery is seeking to add to our staff a Team Lead who can lead our team in day to day operations. You will be working directly under our Sales and Operations Manager, and be responsible for a team of 1-3. The job involves working weekends (9.30-5.45). Pay range $25-$30 per hour.
You are a self-starter, multi tasker, problem solver, team player, and full of passion for plants. You have 2+ years of experience from retail and management, and ideally from the nursery industry. You thrive in a fast paced environment and you like the idea of being part of a business in growth, where we don’t necessarily have all the answers. You are sales driven and have impeccable customer service skills.
Tasks include but are not limited to:
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Assuring excellent customer service
SALES: Fulfilling the potential of each customer
CHECKLIST: Daily routines according to checklist
DELIVERIES AND PROJECTS: Staying on top of deliveries and projects
POLICY/ROUTINES: Staying on top of all of our routines, policies and practices
TRAINING: Train new staff in routines
MERCHANDISING: Making sure the nursery looks it’s best at all times and that plants are in the right places.
LEADING: Making sure all the employees have productive/ value adding stuff to do
MOTIVATING: Contribute with positive attitude and motivation
COMMUNICATING: Report to owner/sales and operations manager about issues
Broadway Terrace Nursery is an established Oakland business bringing plants and plant designs to the Oakland Hills since 1986. We are a full scale plant nursery carrying everything from 4” perennials and annuals, to shrubs, trees and succulents. Our indoor shop has an impressive selection of houseplants and pottery, and our specialty is making custom succulent and plant designs. Our customers are used to a high service level and that we go the extra mile in helping them with their plant questions. We recently opened a sister store, Yarrow Nursery in Montclair, Oakland.
